The Breakdown of Fortunate Son
In this song, Creedence Clearwater Revival takes the stance for arguing against the actions taking place in the country during this time of war. The main stance that this song and its lyrics take are towards the power that higher class people had in this war. These people had the opportunity to avoid going to the war because of their social status. The songs states, "I ain't no millionaire's son". They are trying to say that if a millionaire's son was drafted into the war, his money and social status would be able to keep him from going to the war. With the upper class abusing this power they have, they have no view on the war as it does not effect them. Creedence Clearwater is saying that they were not born with these privileges and they were not among the "fortunate" that did have these privileges. They see this abuse of power as a wrong, unethical doing that is hurting the country as a whole, as it only widens the gap in social classes throughout the country.
